It’s a (Weekly) Wrap!
Hello again! I promised I’d try to be back with a weekly wrap-up, and here I am. Adelaide is playing contentedly with toys, and Caleb (who’s still recovering from a funk) is sleeping in, so I’m stealing a bit of time on the computer. I should probably be doing laundry (my evil nemesis never sleeps), but hanging out here with y’all is always more fun.
This week has been such a blur! Between Caleb getting sick and — okay, well, mainly Caleb being sick — it’s just flown by! I hope your work week flew by, too — in a good and less sickly way, of course.
In case you missed one, here are the TRH posts for the week:
- Fantastic service from a Jeep Wagoneer parts provider. Also a winner for my Cutting for Stone giveaway!
- Why buy art when you have talented children around? Caleb’s portfolio consists solely of Choo-CHOO TRACKS!!! as of yet, but I have high hopes he’ll have more to display soon.
- I craved, scored, and painted a solid curvy mirror. The Native Americans had it all wrong, though. Rain dances were a waste of time. If they wanted a sure fire way to make it rain, they should have just planned a furniture repainting project (she said as she gazed forlornly out the window at the dining room chairs awaiting her painterly attentions).
- There were a couple of pieces I was hoping to find for Caleb’s new room, and I scored them on a dime! Hooray!
- I talked about positive peer pressure, a great non-profit organization that benefits local teens, and the importance of taking your “Likes” off of Facebook and into real life.
Found some amazing sources of laughs and inspiration this week! And of course I pinned them. (I’m still debating whether “Pin” should be capitalized. Thoughts?)
My friend Jenny sent me these mustache cookie cutters. Aren’t they hilarious?

My Twin-separated-by-genetics sent me a hilarious link of photos that sum up the 1990s, and I had to Pin this shot of Ryan Gosling. (The caption’s mine.)

So much to love here. I love the undermount sink (I go back and forth about whether I want something like this or a farm sink). The palette’s soothing, the counters are clear, I love the subway tile, the topiary, the silver platter…
I also loved how Emily A. Clark used vinyl wall decals on her stairs:

I want to do something similar on our stairs, but Scott and I haven’t agreed on which word/phrase/quote. I actually loved Emily’s choice (from the book The Help), but Scott’s feedback was “I’m not sure if surrounding our children with bad grammar is the way we want to go in the long-term. Isn’t bad grammar a pet peeve of yours?” Touche, Husband. Touche. We’ve talked about scripture, but I feel like I already immerse them in it (not that you can give kids too much Bible larnin’) and I want to throw some good old-fashioned feel-good literary quotes at them, too. Something positive to uplift the girls when they go up to their rooms. I’m thinking about something from Shel Silverstein, but would love any ideas that come to your minds! So many wonderful children’s books to choose from.
When I wasn’t here, I was enjoying the gorgeous Georgia spring weather. It’s been in the 70s, and despite the rain cramping my style, something deep in me loves a good rainy day. I think I have British genes that yearn to wander a moor. I’ve also been working on a series of articles for YourTango. They should go live within the next few weeks, and I’ll be sure to give you a link.
Finally, I’m trying to get my ducks in a row for my blog’s facelift. Man, there’s a lot to think about. It doesn’t help that I’m a total techie fail. I’ve had a lot of help figuring things out. I’m going to have several folks to thank once the blog’s running a bit more smoothly (by April, I think!) One of the biggest challenges (other than the techie stuff I’m so talented at screwing up) has been finding pictures of myself that I like. Blah! I wish I could pull a Jennifer Anniston and have a hair stylist on my personal staff.
Okay, friends. That was my week! I’d love to hear about yours…successes, challenges, favorite Pins? Be sure to subscribe, if you haven’t already. I promise I won’t bombard you with anything crazier than what you’ve already seen. No pyramid schemes, no politics. Just talk about creating a home with a family I love, and the deliberately thankful and joyful life we try to live there.
Have a safe weekend! Adelaide’s demanding I come play with her now, and she’s too precious to resist. Hugs!

It's like a decor love triangle! We're stumped on it too, but lately I'm leaning undermount. :) Thanks for stopping by, Jena! (I've been browsing colors on your blog all morning...paint companies need to put you on commission!)
1. Stumbled into this other blog from Pinterest and thought of you. You'll know why the moment you go there. Enjoy! http://sweetpaul.typepad.com/my_weblog/2012/02/crafty-friday.html 2. I second your touche for Scott! I can understand that you'd be quoting The Help, but before I realized the source of the text, my first thought was "You is conjugating verbs incorrectly!" which, of course, is still making me chuckle. :-) 3. I am way too easily distracted and amused on Friday afternoon. Thanks for entertaining me today and every day!
Love this line, "Just talk about creating a home with a family I love, and the deliberately thankful and joyful life we try to live there." That warms my heart. I would so totally come style you for a photo shoot. Totally. I pretty much own every eye shadow color Ulta has ever sold. And Jeannie has enough lipstick and lip gloss to style a third world country. We'll hook you up.
I would probably do some quotes. I love quotes."The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched. but are felt in the heart." ~Helen Keller. That is one of my favorites. Another one is "I have one passion. It is He, only He." --Count Zinzendorf

Welcome to The Restarter Home! TRH documents our journey as we downsize and renovate a smallish house, while upsizing our expectations for experiencing life there as a family of five. DIY disasters and victories, inspiration and encouragement. Gratitude and joy. And love. Lots of love. That’s what we’re all about.

Oh this is great inspiration! I love that kitchen...the marble, the details, the square sink. We went with a huge undermount sink, but it was a tough choice between that and a farmhouse sink!
